The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team defeated Round Rock Concordia 47-38 Oct. 13 in Division II, District 3 play of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

“It was (an) essential (victory),” Flames head coach John Hallam said of the win. ” (We had to have it) for us to finish first or second and to put ourselves in the playoffs or our season is basically over.”

The Flames’ (3-4, 1-1) points came from quarterback Andrew Houy and athlete Cross Sanchez.

“With both running and deep passes,” the coach said. “Cross had one kickoff return for a touchdown.”

Faith trailed by a slight margin in the first half. Once the Flames overcame that, they were able to maintain a lead for most of the second half. They led 19-13 in the third quarter, 34-16 in the fourth quarter and 41-30 with four minutes left in the contest.

The Flames had 367 yards of total offense with 214 coming on the ground and 153 through the passing game. Concordia had 312 yards of total offense with 256 coming from the air and 56 on the ground.

Hallam noted the Flames “were pretty sloppy” during the contest.

“Defensively, we did some good things in the first half,” he said. “We were undisciplined and gave up some big plays in the second half when we could have put them away.”

He noted the offense fumbled some snaps and had turnovers.

“Sloppiness with the ball definitely hurt us,” the coach said. “The guys really do compete hard. We made big plays. We turn the ball over. We’ve been in all the games.”

Next up is a non-district road game at Weatherford Christian at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20.

Hallam said he scheduled this contest because he wanted to give the Flames the experience of having to get on the bus and going on a long road trip to play, which mirrors the playoff adventure.
